Africa's SMEs are not behind. They are under-infrastructured.

CiraIQ

It will come from the infrastructure layer that converts SME activity into structured data, intelligence, and automated decisions. That layer did not exist yet. We built it.

The Story I Want to Challenge

There is a story told about African SMEs that I want to challenge directly. It goes like this: African small businesses are behind, they lack digital sophistication, and the solution is to give them better tools - cheaper software, mobile apps, connectivity subsidies. Help them catch up.

I have spent years inside African youth ecosystems, from Nairobi to Accra to Lagos to Kigali. I have watched young operators run businesses with remarkable intelligence and almost no infrastructure beneath them.

They are not behind. They are operating on manual systems because no one has built the layer that should be underneath them.

"The bottleneck is not ambition, capability, or market. It is the absence of performance infrastructure - the layer that converts business activity into data that can be acted on."

What Infrastructure Actually Means

When I say infrastructure, I do not mean software. Software is a tool you use. Infrastructure is the layer your operations run on - invisibly, continuously, at scale.

  • Stripe is not a payments app. It is financial infrastructure.
  • Snowflake is not a database tool. It is data infrastructure.
  • AWS is not a server rental. It is computing infrastructure.

African SMEs have been sold tools. What they need is infrastructure.

The difference is compounding. A tool helps you do a task. Infrastructure converts every task into structured data that makes the next task faster, smarter, and more visible. Infrastructure gets better as you use it. Tools just get used.

What CIRA IQ Is Building

CIRA IQ is building the performance intelligence infrastructure layer for African SMEs.

Every workflow execution becomes a structured, UID-linked data event. Those events aggregate into performance metrics. Those metrics feed an intelligence layer that detects anomalies, scores performance, and benchmarks each business against its peers. And that intelligence feeds back into automated decisions - closing the loop without human intervention.

The Recruitment Vertical as Proof of Concept

We started with recruitment agencies in Nairobi. Not because recruitment is the biggest market, but because it is operationally complex, cross-border in nature, and staffed by operators who feel the pain of manual work every single day.

A mid-size Nairobi recruitment agency sources candidates across East Africa for clients in the UK, Australia, and North America.

They manually scrape job boards, draft outreach messages individually, track candidate progress in spreadsheets, and compile weekly client reports by hand. This is a team spending fourteen hours a week on work that should be automatic.

CIRA automates the sourcing workflow, the outreach sequence, and the client reporting output - turning fourteen hours into under two.

But the more important output is structural: every workflow run generates a timestamped, structured event log linked to that agency's unique identifier. After twelve weeks, that agency has a performance dataset that has never existed for their business before.

  • Response rates by job category
  • Candidate conversion by sourcing channel
  • Bottleneck frequency by workflow node

That dataset is the beginning of intelligence.

Why This Is an Infrastructure Bet, not a SaaS Bet

SaaS companies sell seats. Infrastructure companies own the layer. The distinction matters enormously for how you think about defensibility and scale.

When a customer uses CIRA for twelve months, they accumulate twelve months of structured, UID-linked operational history. That history exists only inside CIRA's data model. It powers their weekly performance reports. It gives them a percentile rank against the network benchmark. It is the evidence base for their quarterly business reviews.

Leaving CIRA does not just mean switching a tool. It means losing the only structured performance record their business has ever had.

That is what infrastructure does. It becomes indispensable not through lock-in, but through accumulated value that cannot be replicated elsewhere.

"The data moat starts accumulating on day one. By month six, it is the most valuable thing the customer owns - and it only exists because they stayed."

The Phase 3 Vision and the Cardano Alignment

The recruitment vertical is Phase 1. It teaches us the data model, validates the intelligence layer, and builds the benchmark dataset that becomes defensible.

Phase 2 expands the intelligence product to any operational vertical - logistics, legal, finance, healthcare administration - any business category with repeatable, measurable workflows.

Phase 3 is where the infrastructure thesis becomes fully visible: a stablecoin settlement layer built on Cardano rails, enabling cross-border SME trade with reduced FX friction and near-instant settlement. The Kenya-to-global corridor is the entry point. The pan-African SME network is the destination.

This is not a roadmap slide. The Cardano alignment in our architecture is deliberate and structural. We are building the performance intelligence layer that sits above the financial settlement layer that EMURGO Africa and the broader Cardano ecosystem is building. These are complementary infrastructure plays designed to converge.

What We Are Looking For

We are pre-institutional funding. We have a live MVP, an active first customer pipeline in the Nairobi recruitment market, and a founding team of three - strategy, architecture, and operations - who have been building this with discipline and without shortcuts.

We are not looking for generic smart money. We are looking for investors and ecosystem partners who understand that the African infrastructure opportunity is not a charitable thesis - it is the largest greenfield infrastructure build of the next decade, in a market where the incumbents are mostly absent and the demand is provably real.

If that thesis resonates with how you think about Africa, I will welcome a conversation.
